Magento's checkout success page can be hard to test. It's only shown when you complete the checkout process, and only once per checkout. If you try to refresh the success page, you'll be redirected to the cart. If you're adjusting the styles or content on the success page, having to place a new order every time you want to see the success page is very cumbersome.

Google Address Lookup for Magento 2 by CTI Digital

Addresses can be the bane of an online store. Even with well labelled fields, customers will often enter their details incorrectly, putting their city into the region field, adding extra numbers to their postcode, or simply entering their entire address into the first street field. Address validation can be a hard problem to solve in general, which is why Google Maps and the associated address lookup API can provided much needed assistance. This extension will provide customers with a single address input, allowing customers to search as they would on google maps and select their address from the list of available options.

This month, we have looked at a couple of Magento 2 extensions that can be useful for developers as well as an extension that adds a custom shipping method to your site. We also have a Magento 1 extension that allows the use of a different theme for each of your customer groups.

Magento 2

Magento 2 Set Customer Password by Vinai Kopp

In Magento 1, customer passwords can be easily set from the admin panel under the customer management interface. This capability has been removed from Magento 2 and administrators can only initiate a password reset from the admin panel. Magento will then send an email to the customer with a link for them to input a new password. Another option for setting specific customer passwords is to export the "Customers Main File", then locate and edit the exported CSV to set the password, and finally reimport back this customer CSV file.

Magento 2 Order Comments by Rohit Kundale

One feature that a lot of custom checkout extensions for Magento 1 and 2 bring is the ability to let customers add comments to their order with a free-form text field. This can be used to provide important details to the merchant, such as delivery instructions. This extension adds a comments field to the default Magento 2 checkout without the need for a full checkout overhaul.

Magento Newsletter Coupon by StuntCoders

The Magento Newsletter Coupon extension allows auto-generated coupon codes to be sent to new newsletter subscribers based on a particular shopping cart price rule. Shopping cart price rules are created and configured the standard way in the admin panel under Promotions → Shopping Cart Price Rules. A shopping cart price rule can then be chosen from a list of all rules to be used for newsletter coupons. The coupon codes generated will have the same conditions, usage limit, usage per customer, and expiration date as the chosen shopping cart price rule.

Merchants signed up for Australia Post services will have recently received an email explaining that the SSL certificates used by Australia Post will soon be updated. As many of our customers will be connecting to Auspost APIs through the Fontis Australia extension, we will explain the impact to Magento merchants.

When is this happening?

The cutover time is scheduled for August 2nd, 2017 at 12:00 AEST.

Does this affect the Australia extensions for Magento 1 & 2?

No.

We are pleased to announce the release of version 1.0.1 of the Fontis Australia extension for Magento 2. This is a minor update that fixes an issue with eParcel shipping.

Changes in this version are:

• Fixed issue where eParcel shipping would throw an error when saving without uploading a CSV file of rates

The Fontis Australia extension for Magento 2 is available for immediate download on GitHub and is available to install through Composer from our site. If you have any feedback or would like to contribute, please submit an issue on GitHub.

This month, we are reviewing some of the free extensions that were released in April for Magento 1, including an extension to limit the number of products a customer can buy as well as a second that adds a color attribute type. We also look at Magento 2 extensions that allow custom maintenance pages to be used, let customers login with one of their existing social accounts and customise the order numbers that Magento generates.

We are pleased to announce the release of version 1.0.0 of the Fontis Australia extension for Magento 2. The extension is now also available through Magento Marketplace.

Changes in this version are:

• Add postcode autocomplete
• Fix an error when running in production mode

This brings the Magento 2 version of the extension to feature parity with the Magento 1 version.

We are pleased to announce the release of version 3.4.1 of the Fontis Australia extension for Magento 1. This is a minor version release of the extension which includes the following changes:

• Adds tracking support to Australia Post shipments
• Fixes issues relating to lookups on domestic postcodes less than 1000 in both the Australiapost and Eparcel shipping methods
• Minor improvement to address autocomplete
